August 14, 2014
I always wanted to go to these 2 cities which is Barcelona & Santorini. and also Paris. Anyways, I jio-ed Munhong to go with me but he don't want while others are working. I was so eager to go travelling as I only have one year left in the UK. My friends had been telling me : Thongyen. go travel as much as you can. You only have one year left while we got 3 years left. I decided to go YOLO & booked my air ticket to Barcelona one week before the trip. It wasn't very cheap but I think it's quite okay. 300 pounds for 5d4n hotel & British Airways flight ticket. In total, I spent 570 pounds incl food, souvenirs, my FCB jersey, transport and entrance ticket to those famous places. At 4/8/2014, I woke up at 3.30am to get ready. Taking buses instead of railway which costs 22 pounds. I reached the airport around 6.15am and checked in. and here I go :D ps ; I was sick the few days before the trip lololol Most of the people has been worrying about me esp my parents, my friends and even my housemate. They were like : huh? YOU GO ALONE. BARCELONA QUITE DANGEROUS ONE LEH. ALOT OF SNATCH THIEVES ONE. and my other friend told me : My bag almost got snatched twice. I really go paranoid at that time. Was so worried the few days before the trip that I couldn't sleep at night. Until I talked to this friend of mine, he calms me down. He is a very chill person. He said : everywhere is dangerous. London is dangerous. KL is dangerous too. Just be more careful. I just told myself to have fun as much as possible during this trip which I had anticipated for so long :) Took me quite some time to arrive my hotel. I'm so glad I reach there safely. Checked in & headed out again. (i) There is this app you must download when you are travelling to oversea ( even with friends ) : Tripadvisor Offline App. It was my life saver. I was thinking to get a local sim for me to go online for direction but with that app, I don't need internet. The app is so so so useful. It showed you how far away you are from the destination you are heading to. Any restaurant nearby you are at. and with the review & ratings. (Y) (ii) It was super crowded in Barcelona when I was there. So, it's a must to buy your ticket online & they will send you the bar code or you can just print out the ticket. (iii) There is 2 things you must know about Barcelona. First is Gaudi & Second is Gothic.
Sagrada Familia. It means the holy family
This cathedral is one of the most famous cathedral in the world. It was freaking pretty inside. It is estimated to be done in year 2026. Gaudi is known as the most important that contribute to this building. However, he is not the first person that started this project. It's another guy which I cant remember his name but Gaudi took over the project one year later.
There is at least 150 people queuing for the ticket. Luckily I bought my ticket online. My ticket was 16.30 € ( Student price with the audio guide )
They don't really checked your student ID but you have to at least look like a student. You can stay as long as you want in the cathedral. However, when you purchased your ticket online, there is time for you to choose. You have to reach there on time to enter the cathedral if not you might have to burn your ticket.
I think it's kinda necessary to get an audio guide with you if not you don't know about anything regarding to this cathedral.
There was this bunch of girls asked me for help to take a photo. So I gladly helped them and requested them to help me also. And this is the outcome. #yougotgoodphotographyskillgal
The mini Sagrada Familia
The classroom
Spot JESUS!
Detail of the roof in the nave. Gaudí designed the columns
to mirror trees and branches. It's hard to explain. The
design is flower with branches and trees to form a harmony
thing.
Spot the small branches which connect to the root.
Love this so so much :3
Pardon my hair. It's the strong wind but I couldn't skip this photo.
It's me w/ Sagrada Familia :DD
I'm sorry if you saw repeating photo. It's too pretty so I couldn't stop myself from snapping photo.
(iv) Just a small tip. If you need a photo, always get help from people which holds a camera/dslr. This is my own theory la. They won't snatch your camera cause they have their own one & they tend to have better photography skills.
Look at my tired face ;x
(v) Always put your bag in front. I know it looks stupid/ugly but it's better than someone stealing your stuff.
I spent around 2.5 hours in there. Although there is no time limit. You can go in at 10am and stayed in there for 8 hours HAHAHA of course, I wouldn't recommend you to do so.
There is these two high reviews restaurant nearby Sagrada Familia.
1. Anauco (Burger Restaurant) Open till afternoon
Valencia 428, 08013 Barcelona, Spain
I didn't visit the restaurant cause it was closed when I
reached there.
2. La Paradeta (Seafood Restaurant)
Opening times : 13.00-16.30 & 20.00-23.30
Closed on Mondays.
Passatge Simo, 18, Barcelona, Spain
They serve super fresh seafood. There is quite a long queue
when I reached there.
Both of them are like less than 5 minutes away from Sagrada Familia.
Bubbles.
Waited for an hour half for La Paradeta to open at 8pm and later on realised it is freaking MONDAY. Randomly entered a restaurant and had a pizza. It sucks & aint cheap yo! :(
(vi) If you are tired or wanted to get a drink/free wifi. Go to MCD. It's the cheapest place to chill. Their mineral water is 1euro and same goes to their soft drinks which is waaaay cheaper compared to Burger King & etc. I met few old ladies in their 60s/70s chilling in MCD playing 飞机棋. I don't know what is it called in English, Flying Chess lololololol Went back to hotel quite early on Day 1. Day 1 : 10.6 miles Day 2 coming soooonnn I hope.
